MOASPA Meets

Professional Development Opportunities

MOASPA provides ongoing professional development opportunities for its members.  Each year MOASPA hosts an annual conference at Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri which is a three day event for business members and human resources professionals.

With over 150 members, attendees engage in high quality professional development in the areas of legal compliance, state legislation, criminal background checks and compliance, state education department information, state retirement system updates, leadership development programs, trends impacting human resources departments and other topics that are of interest to MOASPA members.

In the fall of 2024, MOASPA partnered with two law firms, Kriha Boucek, LLC and Tueth Keeney Cooper Mohan Jackstadt P.C., to host a five part virtual development opportunity on the topic of employee negotiations.  Topics included:  

The Law 

Participants gained knowledge around  Collective Bargaining Laws in the State of Missouri, How Unions Organize and What are the District’s Responsibilities

How It Works 

Participants learned about the different Styles of Negotiating, How to Identify and Present Issues and What are the Hot Topics in 2024 

Do’s and Don’ts 

Participants engaged in information around How to Handle Information Requests and What to Do and What Not to Do in a Collective Bargaining Session 

The Environment 

Participants heard from an Expert Panel on How to Create a Positive Environment for Collective Bargaining Sessions 

Start to Finish 

Participants learned everything from Start to Finish in a Collective Bargaining Cycle that results in Union Contract Ratification and Board Approval  

In January of each year, MOASPA kicks off with 4-5 MOASPA Meets sessions on topics of interest by its members.   2025 Topics included:  Employee Attendance, Employee Investigations, FMLA,ADA and Accommodations, and Staff Recruitment and Retention.
